"Widowmaker - my take on Dave Parmenter's Widowmaker fin set up. My version is essentially a 70’s single fin inspired outline, modernised with different bottom contours and fins (i don't recommend riding as a single fin - I FORBID THIS).  I find the Widowmaker set up provides all the benefits of riding a single fin but with the added snap and bite of the side fins. Appropriate for small(ish) waves to well over head waves, the Widow is a favourite with everyone that rides it. The front half is fairly forgiving and the rear half is a lot more refined and tuned in.

The Widowmaker in shorter lengths is a great pocket-rocket tube rider and good wave shortboard alternative, in longer lengths it works as a high performance midlength or alternative step up. The Widowmaker works in a good variety of wave types and wave sizes, and the fin set up is what really makes it highly functional. I find a 6.75" centre fin is great all rounder and then I switch to a 6.5" centre for bigger surf or a 7.0" for smaller surf. The really neat thing I find with the Widowmaker is you can dial the fins in for a lot of different waves/conditions which makes it a versatile beast. For tighter arcs I move the centre fin up in line with the side fins, this tighter cluster creates a more responsive feel under foot but reduces the size of the sweet spot and moves it forward so it's better suited for smaller waves. Then for longer, drawn-out lines on larger waves, I pull the centre fin back in the box to spread things out a bit more with a wider sweet spot you can really jam into.
